The game’s plot was set 200 years before the events shown in Mount & Blade: Warband. The place of action is a powerful power in the land of Calradia, whose ruler died without leaving an heir. There was no interruption in the country, and numerous groups of bandits, nomads and mercenaries appeared on trade routes. Fortunately, our protagonist appears in the endangered state, and his task is to find himself in a complicated political situation and control the wayward noble courts, restoring the land to its former glory as the leader of one of the six available factions.

The general assumptions of Mount & Blade II do not differ significantly from the patterns of the previous part, so the game’s plot is only the background for an extremely complex gameplay. The gameplay was again divided into two main aspects: strategic and dexterity. During the game, we move around the vast virtual map of the land, which covers a total of approx. 230 square km. We rent warriors and adventurers in the nearby taverns, and in the villages we buy food and drink for our unit. In addition to performing tasks related to the story and a whole lot of side orders, of course, the remainder of the game are numerous battles, during which we head one of the fighting armies, watching the action from behind our hero.
The second part of Mount & Blade, however, is also a lot of improvements and modifications that gave the game an even more sandbox character. Significant improvement has been achieved, among others character creator that allows you to modify virtually any element of the face and appearance of the hero. An improved tutorial introduces us to the game, which has become much more dynamic and addictive than its predecessor. A lot of work was put into the system of fighting and conquering fortresses. In battles, we can issue more precise orders, and when attacking castles, use siege machines and destroy some elements of the walls with them. A better experience is also provided by the tuned-up artificial intelligence system, which means that our soldiers are able to make their own decisions and quickly move to the place of battle where they will be most needed.
Other noteworthy improvements include a greater individuality of the character – each has its own story and profession, which can be important from the point of view of the entire team. The game world is vibrant with its own life, and the people encountered diligently devote themselves to their daily duties and a number of other activities. Additional interesting places appeared outside the cities and fortresses on the map of Calradia. The game has significantly expanded the possibilities of managing our possessions (imposing taxes, training warriors, directing people to build) and introduced an autonomous trade system that takes into account demand and supply, which allows the use of additional tactics (economic war, cutting the besieged fortress from resources, etc.). The whole is complemented by an extremely extensive craft system, thanks to which we can forge a unique sword, deciding on its appearance and parameters.
Mount & Blade II has a significantly improved audiovisual setting compared to its predecessors, based on a completely new, original engine. Improvement can be seen both in the appearance and greater interactivity of individual locations, as well as during fights – especially those involving more warriors (e.g. castle sieges). The course of battles can be affected by factors such as the seasons and changing weather. In addition, each of the skirmishes can be thoroughly analyzed using an effective replay system. The creators have also not forgotten about moderators, providing players with an extremely functional, layer-based editor with enormous possibilities.
